It has been shown to inhibit the enzymatic activity of beta-lactamase, which is an enzyme that breaks down beta-lactam antibiotics. 2-(5'-Chloro-2'-hydroxyphenyl)-6-chloro-4(3H)-quinazolinonyl a-D-N-acetylgalactosamine can be used for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus. This compound has been shown to have low toxicity and does not cause any significant side effects in animals.
