Product Information
Chitin azure is a fluorescent dye that binds to chitin, a basic protein found in the cell walls of fungi and many other organisms. Chitin azure can be used to stain cells containing chitin. This dye is also useful for diagnosing bacterial infections because it binds specifically to bacteria in vivo and not to mammalian cells. Chitin azure has been shown to be an effective diagnostic agent for infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and malaria. It has also been shown to inhibit enzyme activities in bacteria that may lead to anti-infective properties. The optimum pH for chitin azure's fluorescence emission is 7.5.
