Amsacrine hydrochloride is a cytotoxic drug that belongs to the class of antineoplastic agents that inhibit DNA synthesis and are used for the treatment of cancer. It has been shown to be potent inducers of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in HL-60 cells, a human cell line. Amsacrine hydrochloride has also been shown to have antitumor effects against solid tumours in vitro, and it is able to penetrate through the blood-brain barrier. Pharmacokinetic studies have been conducted on humans, showing that amsacrine hydrochloride is rapidly absorbed after oral administration with extensive distribution into tissues. Amsacrine hydrochloride has also been effective in squamous carcinoma studies and has an antitumor response.
