Description:Meptazinol is a centrally acting analgesic that inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins in the central nervous system. It is an ester hydrochloride that has been studied pharmacokinetically and molecularly docked to the cholinergic receptor. Meptazinol has shown to be highly effective in geriatric patients, with a more rapid onset of action than morphine and similar duration of effect. Meptazinol is chemically stable under acidic conditions, but decomposes at higher pH levels due to its amine group.
