It also has been shown to be effective for the treatment of colitis and respiratory diseases, such as asthma. 1,8-Naphthyridin-4-ol inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines by blocking cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. In addition, this compound may have antidepressant effects due to its ability to inhibit monoamine oxidase (MAO).
