Ethyl 2-[(2-phenylethyl)amino]acetate is a prodrug of prostaglandin E2. It is used as an anti-inflammatory agent and has been shown to have both anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. The drug binds to the prostaglandin E receptor, which in turn activates certain enzymes that cause the production of prostaglandin E2. Prostaglandin E2 is a hormone that plays an important role in inflammation, pain, and fever. It also causes blood vessels to open wider and stimulates the release of histamine from mast cells.
