Suloctidil is a drug that inhibits the release of prolactin from the pituitary gland. It is used to treat symptoms in geriatric patients with low serum levels of prolactin, such as sexual dysfunction. Suloctidil has been shown to inhibit inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators in both mice and humans. Suloctidil also inhibits platelet aggregation, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. It has been shown to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive rats and to increase weight gain in rats with IBD.
