Ethyl 2-amino-4-methyl-1,3-oxazole-5-carboxylate is a structurally active methylene compound. It is biodegradable and has been used as an effective catalyst in the laboratory. This substance is produced by the reaction of ethyl 2-aminothiazole with chloride and thiourea. Ethyl 2-amino-4-methyl-1,3-oxazole-5 carboxylate has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the synthesis of choline from acetaldehyde and ammonia, which are both commercially available compounds. The eutectic point for this compound is at -35 degrees Celsius and it has a melting point of 134 degrees Celsius.
