2,5-Dibromo-4-methylthiazole is a methyl ester that can be used as a co-solvent in the production of solar cells. It is also an electron donor to formic acid, which is an acceptor and semiconductor. 2,5-Dibromo-4-methylthiazole absorbs light at wavelengths between 400 and 420 nm and has been shown to be dehalogenated under exposure to sunlight. This chemical has been shown to have efficiencies of up to 45% when used as a co-solvent in the production of solar cells with a high quantum yield.
