This drug is synthesized by the reaction of terminal alkynes with azides in the presence of copper (II) chloride. 3-Iodoquinoline is an efficient method for the synthesis of cross-coupling reactions and can be scaled up to produce milligram quantities. 3-Iodoquinoline has been shown to be effective against Candida glabrata and Cryptococcus neoformans at concentrations of 1 μg/mL or less. This drug also inhibits cell growth in vitro and in vivo, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis and DNA synthesis.
