Tazifylline is an anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, (+)-tazifylline and (-)-tazifylline, which have different pharmacological properties. Tazifylline has been shown to inhibit leukotriene synthesis by competitive inhibition of leukotriene receptors. This drug also inhibits the production of bronchial reactivity in guinea pigs as well as the development of idiopathic urticaria in humans. Tazifylline has a terminal half-life of 2 hours and is administered orally or intravenously at a dosage between 50 and 100 mg/day.
