It also inhibits the production of lactic acid in chronic bronchitis and other respiratory disorders. Risarestat prevents the formation of carbonyl groups by inhibiting their synthesis by means of an unknown mechanism. The drug can be used as a pharmaceutical dosage for diabetes, but it is not active against bacterial infections. The polymer has a particle size of less than 100 nm and is biocompatible. It contains benzalkonium chloride, which makes it resistant to bacterial growth and suitable for use in chronic bronchitis.
