Hexaconazole is a fungicide that belongs to the group of azoles. It is used to control plant diseases caused by fungi. Hexaconazole inhibits the growth of fungi by interfering with energy metabolism and cell lysis. Hexaconazole binds to the surface of cells, thereby blocking the uptake of glucose, which results in accumulation of intracellular glycogen and polysaccharides. This leads to an increase in the osmotic pressure in the cell, causing its rupture. Hexaconazole also causes disruption of DNA replication due to its effects on cell membranes, which may lead to apoptosis.
