Rilopirox is a benzylamine derivative that inhibits the synthesis of proteins in fungi. It binds to enzymes in the cell wall, inhibiting protein synthesis and killing the fungus. Rilopirox has been shown to inhibit the growth of Candida glabrata and other fungi, as well as exhibit an antifungal activity against yeasts in vitro. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used for the treatment of HIV infection. Rilopirox is not active against bacteria or viruses and should not be used for infections caused by these microorganisms.
