Product Information

Name:
Araliadiol
Description:

Araliadiol is a natural occurring compound found in the plant Centella asiatica. It has been shown to have neuroprotective properties, and has been used in Indian medicine to treat cancer. Araliadiol is a reactive molecule that reacts with glutamate, which is an excitatory neurotransmitter that plays an important role in the development of brain cell death. The mechanism by which araliadiol inhibits glutamate-induced toxicity may involve its inhibitory effect on endoplasmic reticulum stress. It also blocks the synthesis of protein and RNA, which are necessary for cell division. Araliadiol has also been shown to be effective against breast cancer cells and melanoma cells in laboratory studies. Araliadiol can be synthesized from aralin (3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid) and diols such as 1,2-ethanediol or 1,2-propanediol.
