Product Information
3-Hydroxy-2-nitrobenzonitrile (3HNB) is a biomolecule that has been systematically studied. It is a cyclic molecule with two nitro groups, and is synthesized by the reaction of 3,4-dihydroxybenzonitrile with nitric acid. The crystal structure of 3HNB was determined by X-ray diffraction to be orthorhombic and space group Pbca. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of 3HNB have been investigated in tumour cell lines. Mechanistic studies show that it inhibits the proliferation of tumour cells by binding to DNA and inhibiting DNA synthesis. This inhibition leads to cell death via apoptosis or necrosis, depending on the concentration of 3HNB used.
