Erysenegalensein E is a flavonoid with anti-cancer, anti-infectious disease, estrogen receptor modulator, and antioxidant properties. It is found in the genus erysenegalense. This compound has been shown to have potent bioactivities such as inhibiting protein synthesis and proliferation of cancer cells, inhibiting HIV replication in vitro, and inducing apoptosis in leukemia cells. The extract from the fruit of this plant has also shown anthelmintic efficacy against Ascaris suum in vivo.
Erysenegalensein E also exhibits antibacterial activity against S. aureus and H. pylori with inhibitory activities against C. albicans and T. vaginalis isolates at concentrations that do not affect normal human cells.
