Hexadecanoylamino-4-methylumbelliferyl b-D-galactopyranoside is a substrate used for the diagnosis of Krabbe disease. Krabbe disease (globoid cell leukodystrophy/ galactosylceramide lipidosis), is a rare and often fatal lysosomal storage disease that results in progressive damage to the nervous system.
