Clozapine is an antipsychotic drug that is used to treat schizophrenia. It has a high affinity for the D4 receptor and inhibits the uptake of dopamine by this receptor. The affinity of clozapine for D4 receptors is much higher than its affinity for other receptors, such as the serotonin 5HT2A receptor. Clozapine has been shown to reduce the levels of dopamine in animal experiments, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the uptake of dopamine by D4 receptors. Clozapine also has a low affinity for serotonin 5HT2A receptors and can decrease serotonin levels in plasma samples.
