This drug also inhibits the formation of siderophores and pseudobactin, which are involved in iron uptake. Benzyl 2-amino-3-hydroxypropanoate hydrochloride also has an anti-inflammatory effect and may be used as an adjuvant therapy for tuberculosis or cancer chemotherapy.
