R-268712 is a protein inhibitor that inhibits the activity of growth factor β. It has been shown to be effective in animal models of lung fibrosis, cancer, and eye disorders. R-268712 is administered orally and has been shown to decrease the viscosity of mucus secretions in the lungs, thereby improving lung function. This drug also has pluripotent cell properties and can differentiate into cells of different lineages. R-268712 has no effect on normal cells but inhibits the proliferation of lung fibroblasts and cancer cells in culture.
