Description:3-Nitrophenyl alpha-D-galactopyranoside is a chromogenic substrate to measure the activity of the alpha-galactosidase enzymes. Upon hydrolysis by galactosidase, 3NPG releases a yellowish product, 3-nitrophenol, which can be easily measured spectrophotometrically. Some of the applications include enzyme assays, screening for alpha-galactosidase-producing microorganisms, and studying the kinetics and inhibition of alpha-galactosidase enzymes.
