ACE2 (18-740) is a human protein that is encoded by the ACE2 gene. ACE2 is a member of the enkephalinase family, which cleaves peptides at the carboxy terminal amino acid. ACE2 has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of coronavirus and other viral proteases, including those from SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV. It has also been shown to inhibit angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), which plays an important role in regulating blood pressure.
