Protease from Streptomyces griseus is a proteolytic enzyme that has been shown to have high activity against biological samples, such as kidney bean and biological samples. The enzyme is an endopeptidase that cleaves proteins at the carboxyl-terminal side of arginine or lysine residues. This proteinase can also hydrolyze peptides at the N-terminal side of aspartic or glutamic acid residues. It has been shown to have high activity against viruses and has been used in vitro to study how epidermal growth factor interacts with viral envelope proteins. Protease from Streptomyces griseus can be used for plasma mass spectrometry and fluorescence detection.
