SPR741 is a synthetic antibiotic that belongs to the class of nitroimidazoles. It is an antiparasitic, antiviral, and antifungal agent that inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. SPR741 has been shown to inhibit the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses in vitro. The in vivo activity of SPR741 has not yet been evaluated, but it is thought to be effective against most bacterial strains, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
SPR741 also inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory effects.
