D-Fructose 6-phosphate, disodium salt dihydrate (DFP) is a compound that is used as an extender in the preparation of semen extenders and as a plasma membrane stabilizer in cryopreserved spermatozoa. It has shown to preserve fertility in bubalus, which may be due to its ability to maintain mitochondrial transmembrane potential. DFP also has been shown to protect against acrosome reactions. This drug also has been found to increase sperm motility and maintain supravitality of spermatozoa.
