Description:Aurin is a novel drug that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and congestive heart failure. Aurin is a prodrug that is metabolized by hydrolysis to aurin monophosphate (AMP), which inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β). AMP also inhibits the activity of many enzymes, including cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase, phospholipases, and nitric oxide synthases. This inhibition leads to an anti-inflammatory effect by decreasing prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and nitric oxide production.
