(1R,2S)-1-Amino-2-indanol is a potential drug candidate that can be used in asymmetric synthesis. It has been shown to inhibit the flow of hydrogen bond and to form an enantiomer. The enantiomer is more active than the racemic mixture, which may be due to the higher binding affinity for the enzyme. This compound has also been shown to inhibit herpes simplex virus and HIV in vitro with a high potency.
