• Description: 2-Aminobiphenyl is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C6H5CH2NH. It has been found to be carcinogenic in animals. 2-Aminobiphenyl is metabolized by the liver and excreted in urine, and is also excreted into breast milk. 2-Aminobiphenyl binds to epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR) and triggers the activation of cell proliferation. The tissue culture studies show that it induces tumor formation at higher doses, but not at lower doses. 2-Aminobiphenyl has been shown to bind to DNA through intramolecular hydrogen bonds and form adducts with guanine bases. This binding leads to an increase in DNA strand breaks and inhibition of DNA synthesis, which may lead to cancer or other diseases affecting cells that divide rapidly such as bladder cancer or cancer of the skin.
