Anthraquinones are a class of naturally occurring compounds that have been used in the treatment of allergies. They are also used as anti-inflammatory agents and to treat cancer. Anthraquinone derivatives are commonly used in the production of dyes, plastics, and paints. They are also found in some natural products such as aloe vera. Anthraquinones have shown anti-allergic activity through inhibition of histamine release from mast cells, which is mediated by the chromatographic analysis of polymers with a rate constant (k) value greater than or equal to 1×10^6 M^-1s^-1. The apoptosis pathway can be inhibited by anthraquinones due to their ability to induce programmed cell death through their interactions with metal chelates and natural compounds such as 1-6c alkyl groups.
