(R)-2-Amino-7-[4-fluoro-2-(6-methoxypyridin-2-yl)phenyl]-4-methyl-7,8-dihydro-6H-pyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidin-5-one is a prodrug of the chemotherapeutic drug fluorouracil. It is a fluorinated analog of uracil and inhibits the enzyme thymidine kinase to inhibit DNA synthesis. This agent has been shown to be effective in the treatment of oral cancer and maxillary tumors, as well as pterygomaxillary lesions. This agent also exhibits antiplatelet activity and can be used for the prevention of dental caries by adhesion to denture surfaces.
