4-Amino-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenol is a phenolic compound that is used as an herbicide. It inhibits estrogen synthesis by binding to the estrogen receptor and preventing the formation of 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid from 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvic acid. The incubated constant for this reaction was found to be 1.7 μM. The glucuronide conjugate of 4-amino-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenol is eliminated in the urine, which may account for its low toxicity in humans. This compound has been shown to have agonist activities on MCF-7 cells, which are human breast cancer cells.
