Description:Ac-Cys(farnesyl)-OMe is a synthetic, methyl esterification product of farnesol and acetic acid. It is a protease activity inhibitor that has been shown to have bone resorption activity in rats. Ac-Cys(farnesyl)-OMe has been shown to inhibit the enzyme farnesyltransferase, which is involved in the posttranslational modification of proteins. This inhibition blocks the synthesis of sterols, which are necessary for bone resorption. Ac-Cys(farnesyl)-OMe has been shown to be active against multidrug resistant bacteria and may be used as an agent for treatment or prevention of heart disease.
