Amyloid beta-protein (1-40) hydrochloride salt H-Asp-Ala-Glu-Phe-Arg-His-Asp-Ser-Gly-Tyr-Glu-Val-His-His-Gln is a secretase inhibitor that binds to the active site of the enzyme and blocks its activity. Amyloid beta protein (1 - 40) hydrochloride salt H has been shown to inhibit the production of amyloid, which is linked to Alzheimer's disease. The amino acid sequence of this compound is identical to that of the human amyloid beta protein.
