Ac-Phe-pNA is a synthetic substrate that can be used to study the role of serine proteases in collagenolysis. It has been shown to have a high affinity for collagen, which makes it an excellent candidate for use as a probe for studying the interaction of proteases with collagen. This substrate binds to the enzyme and is cleaved by the serine protease at neutral pH. The reaction mixture turns yellow and fluoresces under UV light. Ac-Phe-pNA is reactive to epimastigotes and displays a ph optimum of 7.5.
