Description:Ac-Ala-Ala-Ala-OH is a calcium binding protein that is involved in the activation of zymogens. It is an acidic protein that can be found in the zymogen granules of bacteria such as Salmonella typhimurium. Ac-Ala-Ala-Ala-OH has been shown to bind to basic proteins and, when bound, enhances proteolytic activity. Acetylation of Ac-Ala-Ala-Ala-OH at its N terminus by chloromethyl ketone converts it into an acetyllysine derivative with increased stability, which may also result in decreased proteolytic activity.
