Description:
6-Nitroanthanilic acid is a carcinogenic chemical that is produced by the metabolism of nitrite. It has been shown to cause cancer in rats and mice, but this effect has not been seen in humans. 6-Nitroanthanilic acid also exhibits biliary toxicity and can be used as an alternative to cholecystectomy for gallstones. The compound is a high yield reagent for the production of microbiologically active compounds, such as nitrites and diazonium salts. 6-Nitroanthanilic acid reacts with organic solvents to form isomers that have different biological activities. It also participates in various metabolic pathways, including the conversion of alcohols into acetaldehyde or acetic acid.
