2-Acetyl-4-methylpentyl)trimethylammonium iodide is an isoquinoline compound that is used as a precursor in the synthesis of deutetrabenazine and tetrabenazine. 2-Acetyl-4-methylpentyl)trimethylammonium iodide binds to the thyroid receptor and blocks the uptake of iodine by the thyroid gland, which prevents the synthesis of thyroxine and triiodothyronine. This compound has been shown to have a dihydroxy structure, which can react with other compounds to form benzene derivatives.
