Product Information

Name:
2-(3-Aminophenyl)ethanol
Synonyms:
  • 3-Aminophenethyl alcohol
  • 3-(2-Hydroxyethyl)aniline
  • 3-Aminophenylethanol
Description:

2-(3-Aminophenyl)ethanol is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water. It has a pungent odor and can be used as an antiviral agent. 2-(3-Aminophenyl)ethanol is often used as a nucleoside analogue to inhibit the growth of viruses. It inhibits adenine synthesis by blocking the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase, which converts ribose-5-phosphate into deoxyribose, preventing DNA replication and ultimately cell division. The compound also inhibits viral DNA polymerase by binding to the active site of the enzyme, impeding its ability to synthesize viral DNA.
2-(3-Aminophenyl)ethanol also has been shown to inhibit cultures of tumor cells and leukemia cells, but it is not effective against bacterial infections or fungi.
