3-AzetidinoneHydrochloride is a reagent that is used in the synthesis of baricitinib, an anti-rheumatic drug. 3-AzetidinoneHydrochloride can be obtained by olefination with benzylamine and hydrogenolysis of the resultant benzamide. The stable crystalline form of 3-azetidinonehydrochloride can be synthesized by oxidation reaction of tert-butylbenzene with nitric acid. 3-Azetidinonehydrochloride has been shown to oxidize at room temperature, which may lead to its instability.
