4-Acetoxymethylpyridine is a synthetic compound that belongs to the anion group. It has been used as a stationary phase in gas chromatography and as an eluent in liquid chromatography. 4-Acetoxymethylpyridine is also commonly used as a reagent to convert alcohols into their corresponding pyridinium salts. This compound undergoes nucleophilic attack by hydroxide ions, which leads to bond cleavage and the formation of the n-oxide. 4-Acetoxymethylpyridine is soluble in polar solvents such as ethanol, but insoluble in nonpolar solvents such as hexane. Spectroscopic data indicates that this compound contains an oxygen atom with two hydrogen atoms bonded to it, along with four carbon atoms and two nitrogen atoms.
