4-Acetylpyrazole is a hydrogen bond donor that has been shown to have antitumor effects. It is structurally related to other drugs such as phenacetin, acetaminophen, and acetaminophene. 4-Acetylpyrazole inhibits the growth of human breast carcinoma cells in culture by suppressing DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. The mechanism of action may be due to its ability to react with carbonyl groups on proteins, leading to their inactivation. 4-Acetylpyrazole also binds with oxygen and hydrogen molecules in the crystal structure of its solid form, which can lead to changes in its electronic structure and activity.
