It can be used as an antiinflammatory agent because it blocks the production of prostaglandin E2, which is responsible for edema, pain, and fever. The mechanism of its action involves binding to cyclooxygenase enzymes and inhibiting their activity. 3-Amino-4-cyanopyrrole can also be used as a fluorescent probe in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements.
