Product Information

Name:
2-Amino-5-phenylthiophene-3-carboxamide
Synonyms:
  • 2-Amino-5-phenyl-thiophene-3-carboxylic acid amide
  • 3-Thiophenecarboxamide, 2-Amino-5-Phenyl-
Description:

2-Amino-5-phenylthiophene-3-carboxamide (2APTC) is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to inhibit the bacterial enzyme gyrase and topoisomerase. 2APTC binds to the enzyme, preventing it from performing its function of breaking and rejoining DNA, which leads to cell death. 2APTC has been shown to be active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex, with no effect on other bacteria such as Escherichia coli or Streptococcus pneumoniae. 2APTC has also been shown to have an affinity for thioglycollate and imidazoles.
