2-Aminonaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid is a reactive chemical that is used in the treatment of wastewater. It reacts with methyl ketones and forms diazonium salts, which are then converted to chromatographic products. 2-Aminonaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid can be prepared by reacting sodium carbonate with a diazonium salt, hydrochloric acid, or an ammonium salt. The product is then treated with monosodium carbonate to form the monosodium salt of 2-aminonaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid.
2-Aminonaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid has been shown to have antibacterial properties against bacterial strains such as E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
