Amitraz is a chemical pesticide that has been used to control the populations of insects, mites, and ticks. Amitraz inhibits the activity of detoxification enzymes in the insect's body and causes an increase in intracellular calcium levels. Amitraz is also used as a specific antidote for poisoning by organophosphorus compounds. Amitraz is synthesized from anhydrous sodium acetate and aminobenzoic acid. The lc-ms/ms method was developed for its analysis. Analyses have been performed with different matrices and effects of these on analytical methods have been studied. Amitraz is stable in xylene solvent at 20% concentration and can be extracted using dispersive solid-phase extraction (DSPE) technique.
