Product Information
Azoxymethane is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has been used to induce colitis in animals. It binds to the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and TLR2, which are proteins on the cell surface that are involved in the inflammatory response. Azoxymethane also inhibits dioxin production by altering the activity of photosynthetic bacteria. Dioxins are toxic byproducts of combustion processes and can cause cancer in humans. Azoxymethane has been shown to be effective in animal models for colon cancer, squamous cell carcinoma, and other cancers. It may also be useful for preventing or treating bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
