These reactions are catalyzed by an enzyme called nitrile hydratase. 3-Aminopiperidine has been shown to have therapeutic effects on inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, and ulcerative colitis. The drug also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
