2-Amino-4-chlorobenzenethiol is a fluorescence probe that has been used to study the metabolism of tyrosine. It has also been used as a fluorescent substrate for the determination of tyrosinase activity and molybdenum cofactor activity in vitro. The cationic surfactant, Tween 20, increases the solubility and stability of 2-amino-4-chlorobenzenethiol by binding to its hydrophobic moiety. This results in a more potent tyrosinase that can be used in photodynamic therapy against hyperpigmentation disorders such as hepatic steatosis and insulin resistance.
