Description:1-Acetamidonaphthalene is an amide compound that has a hemolytic activity and inhibits the growth of bacteria. It is an inhibitor of bacterial enzymes, such as amine oxidases, carboxylases and phosphotransferases. 1-Acetamidonaphthalene binds to the C=N group in amides and reacts with the water molecule to form an intermediate carbonyl group. The nucleophilic attack by the proton on this intermediate leads to the formation of a new bond between the acetamide and hydroxyl groups, which are now adjacent to each other. This process is repeated until all the carbonyl groups are eliminated from the molecule, leading to a final product called acetone. Acetone is produced through aerobic photooxidation of 1-acetamidonaphthalene when exposed to light.
